Personas

A UX persona is a fictional character created based on research to represent a specific type of user for a product or service. Personas help designers and developers understand user needs, behaviors, goals, and pain points, ensuring that the final product is user-centered.

This is very important for these points:

  • Empathy & User Understanding.
  • Better Decision-Making.
  • Efficient Development.
  • Improved User Experience.

To improve the user experience of the food delivery app, I created two personas based on research and user behavior analysis.

These personas represent different types of users and their needs, helping us design a more intuitive and user-friendly app, for this, I used everything I learned during my internship as a UX researcher.

This is how I decided to create personas that were very different from each other, allowing me to cover different perspectives.

Eduardo

We started by choosing a photo and adding a quote to make it easier to empathize with this persona.

In Eduardo's case, we wanted to give him a healthy and busy lifestyle focus, highlighting one of his pain points and how much this application would help him.

We also added demographic data, key personality points, and the brands he uses to give him a technological focus, convey that he is an expert in apps, and allow us to get to know him a bit better.

Two of the most important sections of a persona are their biography and personality points, as these allow us to get to know them even better. This helps us understand them as if they were a friend, giving us insight into their personality so we can imagine how they might react when interacting with our application.

To continue Eduardo’s technological focus, we described both his tech-related career and his other occupations to emphasize that he is a busy person with strong technological knowledge.

This suggests that he might be more demanding when choosing an application.

And finally, we focused on three equally important aspects:

  • Technology.
  • Frustrations.
  • Needs.

For technology, we wanted to understand how familiar Eduardo is with mobile apps, social media, online shopping, and gadgets. This helps us determine how easy or difficult it would be for him to use our app. To align with his personality, we gave him a more demanding approach.

In the frustrations section, we aimed to show that he is a busy person who cares about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and how our app could help him achieve that.

Lastly, we described his needs to fully empathize with Eduardo and better understand how we could assist him.

And here we have our first persona.

Mila

For Mila, we followed the exact same steps, we chose a photo and added the personal information to start building empathy with her. With Mila, I wanted to give her a completely opposite approach to Eduardo’s.

Mila is someone who is not very familiar with technology beyond the basics, using apps like TikTok or Spotify, making it easier for people to empathize to her. I also gave her a different smartphone operating system to let us know that the application will work equally well on any device. In her quote, I wanted to clearly highlight her need for an app like the Delivery App.

In the biography section, we further explain her character. Unlike Eduardo, she has more free time but little experience with the technological life, suggesting that she would be more interested in less complex applications.

Her personality is entirely different from Eduardo’s because my goal with this app is to make it accessible to all types of users.

And finally, we focused on  the same three important aspects:

  • Technology.
  • Frustrations.
  • Needs.

Unlike Eduardo, Mila is not very familiar with the internet, but she does have more experience with online shopping, which means she will compare our app with others she already uses.

For her frustrations, we emphasize what we previously mentioned—she avoids complex applications. Her extensive experience with other shopping apps will lead her to look for a simpler and more intuitive option.

Finally, in the needs section, we reinforce this idea, giving her a completely different focus from Eduardo, representing another important users group.

And here we have our second persona.
